"WingTsun kungfu is not just in memorizing sets of movement patterns,
but in the ways of using these movements." —Grandmaster Leung Ting
According to legend, the kung fu style of WingTsun (詠春) was developed 300 years ago in Southern China by a woman.
As such, it is designed to neutralize advantages inherent in greater physical size and strength.
This is accomplished through the use of angles, trained reflexes, and the borrowing of an opponent's strength.
Leung Ting WingTsun is a martial art that prides itself in its practical nature, with no references to mythical creatures or animal movements.
Its applications are simple to grasp, but take hard work to truly master.
Though seemingly soft, WingTsun KungFu's attitude is aggressive in both defense and offense.
While fighting should always be avoided, when necessary, WingTsun KungFu is uncompromising in its effectiveness.
Today, WingTsun is practiced in over sixty countries worldwide, and has been adopted into the training curriculums of many elite military and police forces.
The International WingTsun Association is headed by Grandmaster Leung Ting (10th Level Master of Comprehension), the last and closed-door disciple of the late Great Grandmaster Yip Man.
It is thanks to Grandmaster Leung Ting's efforts that WingTsun has become so popular world wide.
The IWTA headquarters is located in the very location where Great Grandmaster Yip Man last taught classes.
After deciding to fully retire from teaching, he appointed Grandmaster Leung Ting to take over his class.
To this day WingTsun is still taught in the space on Nathan Road in Kowloon.
At Silicon Valley WingTsun, our instructors teach based on the IWTA-NAS curriculum, while customizing lessons according to each individual student's ability.
They help students understand WingTsun principals and methodology, never bully students, and do not allow bullying in our classes.
